Art Against Knives

It is a pleasure to be contributing an illustration to Art Against Knives (AAK) gallery based in London UK. "AAK was born from the tragic and unprovoked stabbing of Oliver Hemsley, a 21-year-old student from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. The vicious attack, which has left Oliver in a wheelchair, took place in Shoreditch, East London, in August 2008. It is the impact of this that drives Art Against Knives to create something positive from such a life-changing experience."

There are many ways to get involved whether you live in London or abroad so don't be shy. Check out their 'How You Can Help' & see where you can serve. It is a brilliant opportunity to be a part of something that is greater than who we are as individuals. This sense of community reminds me as an artist that it is not all about getting ahead, but rather coming along side that causes change.

Below is my illustration that I will be shipping out tomorrow titled 'Redemption'

For The Love of Type

I remember growing up with such a fascination with letters that I would practise writing them all the time with my finger on any surface I could find. It probably looked a little strange seeing a little boy waving his finger around in the air & on walls, but I just loved the movement. The idea that these little lines created letters that in turn created words, sentences, conversations... possibilities - simply captivated my little mind. This captivation has only grown ( along with my little mind) & it is always a pleasure to share this love with others.

I had the privilege of completing the window below for the Children's Art Factory the other night in conjunction with my mini show within their beautifully created mini gallery. The type was inspired by the old ice-cream vans that I remember cruising our streets growing up, & the statement was something that came to mind when pondering the child within us all. The letters are part of what is being displayed & they are for sale if you would like to purchase.

Many thanks to Melissa for her support & for creating such an inspiring space for children & adults alike.

Corbis Tote Bag Design

It has been a privilege to partner with Corbis recently in illustrating a custom type based design which will initially be used by Corbis on their tote bags at the Visa pour l'image being held in Perpignan, France this coming September. I wanted to create a type that captured that sense of story telling, but also upheld sophistication in the final presentation. The circular concept allowed me to weave the letters in & out in an all types of interesting directions & also loosely reference the lens of a camera in light of who Corbis is & also who they represent.

Im now starting to day dream about France as I write this post & how brilliant this international photography festival will be. If you have the opportunity to attend I am confident you will not be disappointed. As written via the Telegraph regarding the post festival amazing schedule - "...just sit in the Café de la Poste all day and meet everyone there." Sounds like a plan to me.

All this to say - Many thanks to Corbis & I hope you are having a great day.

Take care

Staf Magazine Colab

It was a pleasure to receive the invitation from Staf Magazine in Spain to create a design for their facebook profile for the month of September. I wanted to create something fun & full of movement which I thought would be beautifully embodied in the delicate nature of a humming bird. With no restrictions regarding the content it was the perfect time to explore some fresh ideas. The final will be posted in the coming days. Enjoy

Looking Forward

The sun was shining, the breeze was blowing, the people were on the streets & it was a great day shared by all. This was Art On The Street / Guelph ON 2012 & it was a pleasure to be a part of the festivities. Thought you may enjoy a look at my booth that my wife & I set up together. The bunting was from our wedding (Celebrating our 1 year anniversary today - yahhhoooo!) & all the other suitcases, chalkboards & boxes are simply from the studio & our living room. All prints are still for sale if you would like to purchase.

Thanks to everyone who came down & supported - it was very humbling.
