Monday, June 24, 2013 at 12:44AM Creating art is not always a joyful experience. Rewarding - yes, but not always joyful.
The ups & downs of creating a single illustration can often flow as frequently as waves rolling onto the sand on a stormy afternoon. With one movement of the pencil I can feel a sense of incredible inspiration & with the next feel like the inspiration has done the dash. It sounds fickle but I surprise myself in how often this happens.
I often have to remind myself that the process is worth the ups & downs because what I learn through it all is perseverance. This is often the cornerstone in which beautiful art is created & a truth that I have learnt the hard way more often than not. I need to remind myself that its not always about the final piece of art, but rather how my imagination has grown & in turn how that may shape my future ability to create.
It is in doing nothing that I find the greatest thief of creativity.
All that being said - I thought you may enjoy the beginning stages of my current hand lettering process...

Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 11:36PM In follow up to my last post - I thought you may enjoy viewing the final custom tattoo design that I had recently finished for a close friend. As with all custom tattoo requests - the final submission is a line drawing & also a greyscale (or colour if requested) version for consideration when bringing it to the chosen tattoo artist. It is a real pleasure & honour to have created this design.
Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 09:59AM Every now & then I will receive a request for a custom tattoo design & Im always stoked to read through the personal background story to hear the heart behind the design. The thought that the these lines will be inked on someone's skin is quite a humbling thought, so I like to take my time & make sure that every detail is as perfect as I can make it. We worked together on creating a logo that translated residential painting as a craft & not only a trade. The brief was to create a design that both refelected the function of the business & also the character & personality of Josh. The results are below...
Monday, April 8, 2013 at 08:02AM All of my designs begin with pen/pencil on paper & I thought you may enjoy some of these beginnings. Some of these sketches are for commercial projects, some are for commissioned illustrations & some are simply for the love of all things hand drawn.
I have discovered that is always important to be pursuing the art of sketching as it sparks the imagination & allows ceativity to flow in a more organic way. These are just some samples... I will be posting the follow up to some of these sketches in the coming weeks if you would like to follow the progression.

Josh has just celebrated his first year in business & will be launching his new branding & website over the coming weeks.
